Household Wine and Cheese Spending <\/span><\/a><\/h2>

According to data from the <\/span>U.S. <\/span>Bureau of Labor Statistics, Washingtonians really do like their wine and cheese. <\/span>Maptitude<\/span> has created a map of <\/span>the <\/span><\/span>A<\/span>verage <\/span>A<\/span>nnual <\/span>Household W<\/span>ine and <\/span>C<\/span>heese <\/span>S<\/span>pending<\/span><\/span><\/a> by state<\/span>, and Washington places second for the western states, only behind Colorado. In 2022, Washington placed sixth in the count<\/span>r<\/span>y for spending on these pairings<\/span>,<\/span> at $323<\/span>. This put the state in a<\/span> tie <\/span>with<\/span> Minnesota ($323)<\/span>,<\/span> and<\/span> behind Colorado<\/span> ($324)<\/span>, New Jersey<\/span> ($328)<\/span>, <\/span>Connecticut ($335), <\/span>Massachusetts<\/span> ($345)<\/span>, and New Hampshire<\/span> ($351)<\/span>. \u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>

<\/span>The map shows the household spending for each state, and colors the states in a warm gradient from less spending in a pale yellow, to more spending in a deep wine-red color. The least spending on wine and cheese was mostly in the southern U.S., while the northeast <\/span>leads the nation. <\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>

<\/span>Because the <\/span>statistic combines<\/span> both cheese and wine spending, we can only assume which of the two makes up the larger <\/span>portion<\/span> of the total spending. Places with higher spending like California may be attributed to the <\/span>large number<\/span> of wineries in the state, or<\/span> like<\/span> the large amount of dairy and cheese production<\/span> in<\/span> Minnesota <\/span>and<\/span> nearby <\/span>Wisconsin<\/span>. <\/span>The coastal states <\/span>largely outspending<\/span> the landlocked states may<\/span>,<\/span> however<\/span>,<\/span> be more indicative of different lifestyles and spending habits of the different regions.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>

<\/span>Washington state has seen a growing number of wineries in recent years, and dairy continues to be a major <\/span>industry<\/span>, so <\/span>it\u2019s<\/span> no surprise that <\/span>our state<\/span> would place near the top of the list. <\/span>Chelan and Douglas Counties in particular sport a growing wine industry, <\/span>which drives the market for more cheese sales as well. \u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
